HOW TO WEAR ANIMAL PRINT
By Lakeisha Goedluck, 11 November 2018
So, you’ve done the sensible thing this season and stocked up on check shirts. But if you’re in the mood to trial a new pattern, why not get your paws on some animal-print picks? From a leopard-print faux-fur parka to standout snakeskin-print trousers, here are three of our favourite ways to go wild this season.

This spring/summer, revere-collar shirts were every street-stylers’ go-to. From striped numbers to ultra-cool Hawaiian-print versions, the 80s favourite brings an instant vintage vibe to any outfit. If you’re keen to rock the silhouette for AW18, go for a multi-pattern piece like this one. To tame the mixture of zebra and leopard prints you’ve got going on, go for a pair of dark, block-colour trews with a subtle stripe down the side. Pop on a pair of creepers with leopard detailing to up your safari-inspired steez.

Fun fact: the template for the original parka jacket was derived from a style worn by nomadic Caribou Inuit hunters in the far reaches of Canada, and was first made popular in nylon forms in the 1950s. This season, instead of donning a traditional khaki iteration, why not take things up a notch with a leopard-print version? Start off your look with a plain white T-shirt and staple light-wash jeans, and gradually get more adventurous with each layer. A baroque-style shirt will nicely contrast with your coat. Gain extra style points for throwing in a snake-effect belt.

Out of all the animal prints to try out, snakeskin is certainly not for the faint-hearted. Although it’s pretty bold in nature, the print is surprisingly easy to style. Go down the old-school rock star route – think Keith Richards, Mick Jagger et al – and select a pair in a form-fitting cut. On your top half, pick an uncomplicated white shirt to keep the focus on your trews. Then, finish with snake-effect pointed black boots to really nail the retro look.
