SUPER-HYPED GROOMING INGREDIENTS

CBD oil
CBD (AKA Cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring compound found in cannabis. But whoa there, Willie Nelson – this isn’t the stuff that’s gonna leave you all light-headed and woozy, dude. No, no, CBD is derived from hemp, not marijuana, and has been proven to be full of medical benefits – such as relief from muscular pain, anxiety and seizures. But when it comes to grooming, it’s also packed with fatty acids that help your skin and hair. And, boy, are brands loving it in 2018. Perhaps none more so than Perricone, who’ve bottled an entire range of science-led formulas designed to promote healthier-looking skin.

Activated charcoal
OK, sure, humans have been harnessing the power of charcoal as an effective cleaning agent since the days of hanging loose in caves and riding sabre-toothed tigers to work. Y’know, those pre-Insta days. But it’s taken a good couple of millennia for skincare brands to properly market the good stuff – and in the past 12 months, it’s become a grooming regime staple. 'Activated' charcoal (as your face masks, soaps, body washes and toothpastes are probably calling it) acts like a hoover sucking out dirt, grime and bacteria to leave your skin feeling and looking fresh. Add Clinique’s City Block Charcoal Cleansing Gel to your bathroom shelf and see for yourself.

All vegan
You know as well as we do that veganism is a big deal. But how big a deal is pretty mind-bending: according to a very recent survey, more than 3.5million Brits (7% of the population) now lead a life completely free of animal-based products. And because the life choice isn’t just about what goes into your body, but also on it, the grooming world has taken note in a huge way. Vegan products are everywhere. For example, American English is wrapping up the cruelty-free luxe haircare market with a whole range of shampoos and conditioners, whilst mainstream faves Bulldog can proudly claim that their all-natural products are 100% vegan, too.

Hyaluronic acid
You only need to turn on the TV and endure the adverts for a few minutes to realise that hyaluronic acid – a powerful and natural skin plumping and strengthening ingredient – is big on the beauty scene. Thanks to the fact that it can attract 1,000 times its weight in water, brands like Sanoflore has created some serious serums and night balms with the stuff. But it’s 3ina's moisturising sheet masks that we’ve added to our regime. Pop one on your face in the evening and you’ll help the hydration of your skin to no end.

Koreanification
Unless you've been hiding under a rock this year, you'll be aware of how huge a trend anything Korean is. From what we’re eating to who we’re listening to, and it's taken over our skincare regimes as well. There’s no doubt that it takes some guts to try out the wilder Korean beauty products – snail mucus, for example (*shudders*). But for a more entry-level leap into the world of K-grooming, look for ginseng. You’ll find it in these under-eye masks, made in Korea, which will soothe and brighten your sleepy little face. Nice.
