5 SLICK SHIRT AND SHORTS COMBOS
By Chris Sayer, 29 June 2018
With that big flaming ball in the sky really upping the ante recently, it’s time we got ripping off our shirt sleeves and tearing our trouser legs away. But before you get too excited, make sure you soak up this intel. Wherever you’re headed with your arms and pins on full show, make sure you’re looking your best, with our pick of the best shirt and shorts combos for summer…

The festival set
Alright, so your stamina might take a beating from a full weekend of wet wipe baths, late nights and greasy food, but your style sure as heck doesn’t have to. Co-ord shirts and shorts are the headline trend for this festival season – they dance on the lines between slick and relaxed, and smart and fun, and look hella good to boot. A brightly coloured set is perfect garb for dancing until the small hours, no matter who’s on stage.

The poolside duo
No running, no wild splashing… we’re all familiar with the rules of the pool. But there’s only one law when it comes to poolside style. That means going big, bold and patterned with half your ‘fit and toning down the hype by keeping the other 50% classic and plain. Don an unbuttoned shirt above a pair of sun-ready short-shorts and you're good to go.

The preppy pair-up
Anthony Minghella’s 1999 movie The Talented Mr Ripley is the benchmark by which we should all measure our hot-weather smart-casual 'fits, with Jude Law’s Dickie Greenleaf our sartorial saviour. 'What would Dickie do?': four words that should be running through your mind any time the climate forces you to switch out your chinos for shorts. Pop on a pair of tapered shorts to look as if you're dripping with Riviera goodness, and style with a vintage polo – exactly what the man himself would rock to quaff his Aperol Spritz.

The beach twosome
The only thing that you should be applying to your skin when the sand’s calling – other than lashings and lashings of SPF 50 – is some pure Californian finery. It’s all about West Coast heritage vibes this season at the seaside, and with buckets of brands to choose from, you’re spoilt for choice as to which way to go. Opt for surfer-style denim shorts and team them with a lightweight shirt – preferably printed – for a super-chilled look.
