HOW WE DO: SUMMER CHECKS
By Lakeisha Goedluck, 9 June 2018
Year after year, the same pattern emerges: as soon as autumn rocks around, out come the heritage check trews and trench coats. A fail-safe print for colder climes, for SS18, it’s all about wearing the print well into the warmer months. So, to see how to incorporate checks into your spring/summer wardrobe, take a look at how the guys at ASOS HQ are styling their pieces.

A handy bit of kit to wear either on its own or over a T-shirt, it’s always a good idea to have a checked shirt at your disposal. Our Junior Editor Nic goes for a summer-ready version in a vibrant two-way print that he styles with a steezy graphic-print Supreme tee.

On his bottom half, he goes for a pair of dark-washed slim-fit jeans – notice how he’s rolled up the cuffs to show off those popping Nike Air Footscape Woven Chukkas. How's that for a solid masterclass in combining clashing colours?

Contrarily, our CRM Artworker Tom has opted for a predominantly navy ensemble to allow the patterning on his garms to become more prominent. He keeps it chill with a slick printed track jacket and lets his classic white T-shirt peek out from underneath his outer layer to break up his silhouette.

Down low, he opts for a pair of loose-fitting windowpane check trousers to add to the relaxed vibe of his getup. He then finishes off his look with a staple pair of black Converse trainers to not detract attention away from his standout threads.

Now, we all know that summer doesn’t mean guaranteed sunshine. Downpours and windy days are still very much on the cards, so it’s best to make sure that you’re prepared for whatever the weather has in store. Our Artworker Nawal shows that he’s set for the season with this layered-yet-lightweight outfit.

He starts off with a cobalt blue shirt that he teams with a half-zip jacket – extra points for the check patterning reflecting the colour of his shirt. He then finishes off his ’fit with a pair of navy drawstring trousers and matching Converse creps. Versatile dressing, sorted.

Alongside the check shirt, a polo shirt is one of those essential summer-ready items that should be present in every man’s wardrobe. A hallmark of 80s terrace style, this piece can be dressed up or down in no time.

Our Junior Designer Seb goes for a laid-back everyday look by teaming his checked polo with a pair of black jeans and corresponding trainers. So steezy.
