New trend to watch out for in 2018 – high-waisted trousers
The 70s was the decade to channel last year – from Prada to Marni and beyond, the range of corduroy pieces and retro knitted jumpers on offer was extensive. But in 2018, a different staple from the era has entered the spotlight: high-waisted trousers. Seen on the catwalk at the likes of Fendi and Martine Rose, make sure to have a pair as part of your sartorial arsenal for the upcoming spring/summer season.

Key piece for 2018 – oversized blazer
Back in the 80s, the oversized blazer was an essential piece of kit. Revived and refreshed by the likes of Balenciaga, it’s back in full force (for real, take a look at those shoulders) for 2018. Team yours with high-waisted trousers and chunky-soled creps to prove your aesthetic prowess this year.

Top trainer silhouette for 2018 – Air Max 98:
Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the Air Max 97 silhouette, and boy did Nike mark the occasion in the best way – by releasing the style in several popping colourways. This year, it’s the turn of the Air Max 98, so expect limited-edition variations of the OG crep to drop, especially around Air Max Day in March.

Stylish musician to watch out for in 2018 – Dave
Since Wanna Know was released back in 2016, Streatham MC Dave has rapidly climbed the ranks of the UK rap game. This year, he dropped his highly-praised Game Over EP and completed a nationwide sellout tour – not bad for a 19-year-old. Musical talent aside, the guy’s got serious style – as he says on laid-back anthem Samantha featuring fellow hitmaker J Hus, he’s often seen rocking 'Stone Island from [his] head to [his] feet'. Keep a close eye on Dave for outerwear and footwear inspiration in particular.

No other TV show has generated as much hype in recent years as Stranger Things. The supernatural-flavoured, 80s-drenched Netflix hit has such a strong following that its teenage cast would have been forgiven for feeling the pressure when it came to delivering a second series to match the first. Luckily, the young cast is led by the likes of talented newcomer Finn Wolfhard. Like his plucky, earnest on-screen character Mike, the young actor brings seriousness and versatility to his craft (he's also in an indie-rock band) and impresses with his chilled, skate-inspired style off screen.

Stylish TV show to check out in 2018 – Van Helsing
A key figure in gothic literary classic Dracula and its countless film adaptations Frankenstein, Van Helsing got his first title role back in 2004 with Hugh Jackman playing the fabled vampire hunter on the big screen. Fast forward to 2016, and Netflix aired a US TV series of the same name which saw the protagonist replaced by an undead-dispatching descendent, Vanessa Helsing (Kelly Overton). In 2018, the show is set to make a triumphant return – expect scenes of blood-drenched carnage and characters in a mix of all-black leather (the vampires) and Yeezy-esque post-apocalyptic utility chic (the humans).

Stylish film to check out in 2018 – Black Panther
This hotly-anticipated release from the Marvel Cinematic Universe started gaining traction when the first promotional images (yep, not even a trailer), dropped last year. Featuring a cast predominantly made up of people of colour, the action film tells the tale of a CIA agent teaming up with the king of the fictional land Wakanda to prevent the onset of a world war. Expect to see actors Michael B Jordan (Creed) and Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) to be battling it out in futuristic, intricately detailed bodysuits.
