5 RETRO SHORTS STYLES
By Lakeisha Goedluck, 7 September 2017
Channelling old-school styles, from your cap to your creps, has been a key trend of 2017. It may now be September, but don't pack away your summer garms just yet – keep the vibes going with a pair of sportswear-inspired shorts that look like they've been plucked straight from the 80s. Here are five of our favourites to help you get inspired.

Classic cut-offs
At this time of year, it's always worthwhile having some steezy denim cut-offs in your sartorial arsenal. This pair has all the traditional elements of the wardrobe staple but with a vintage twist. The raw-edge hem gives them an authentic feel, while the bold white side stripes deliver a distinctive finish.

The fact that the shorts come in a dark wash also makes them ideal for the transitional period. Don a graphic-print T-shirt and a pair of minimal trainers to secure a 'fit that's both retro and late-summer/early-autumn ready.

Strong stripes
If there's any pattern that transcends the seasons, it's stripes. Switch it up with these soft-touch jersey shorts patterned with horizontal stripes in varying widths. They're regular fit with handy side pockets so make for a solid daywear option.

As they come in a subtle navy, cream and red colourway, they're versatile enough to pair with different top halves but still stand out. Try wearing them with a navy long-sleeved top and off-white creps.

Vibrant vibes
PUMA's garnered a lot of hype over the last year. From celebrity collabs to brand partnerships, the sportswear giant's been offering stand-out streetwear pieces and some seriously slick footwear. The terrace style of the 80s is still going strong, so, to truly champion the look, get involved with these football shorts from the label.

Cop the matching shirt and wear them for footy on the weekends, or pair them with a crew-neck jumper and suede kicks for a laid-back, off-pitch getup.

Popping panels
Similar to denim cut-offs, a pair of white drawstring shorts are a warm-weather essential. These cotton ones come in a skinny fit, so are close but comfortable cut. What really makes them so fresh, however, are the knitted cut-and-sew panels on each side.

This DIY-inspired technique is big this season, so opt for the matching jumper if you're really feeling the look. For a more relaxed feel, wear these with a brightly coloured hoodie, white T-shirt and high-tops in a complementary hue.

Horizontal hype
Back in the 80s, towelling was everywhere, from sweatbands to sports vests and fluorescent ankle socks. These regular-fit shorts are made up of a towelling jersey knit, so pay homage to the era. The thick drawstring waistband makes them easily adjustable, while the pockets provide a relaxed touch.
