INSPIRATION AND ADVICE

SS18 SCANDI STREET STYLE

Like a tautly plotted Nordic noir or a tasty plate of smørrebrød, you can rely on Scandinavian style to deliver the goods. Which is why we’ve been scouring the street-style scene at the recent SS18 fashion shows in Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen to bring you a fresh delivery of Northern niceness.

A superficially simple getup from this Oslo attendee is elevated by some next-level tucking. White tee into straight-leg, pinstripe trews (which themselves sit nicely above chunky white sneaks) – so far so SS17. But layering over an oversized white Oxford shirt, unbuttoned but with a half-tuck on the left-hand side only? That’s sailing straight on through to SS18 without a second thought.

Scandi style is all about clean lines, subtle shades and minimal designs, right? Unless you’re this stand-out Stockholmer, in which case add in patches, graphics and clashing patterns galore. The colour scheme’s got a bit of the Swedish flag about it, at least.

Comme des Garçons x adidas x a refreshing bottle of water. This guy knows how to stay icy fresh during the dog days of Oslo summertime.

Less Canadian tuxedo, more Swedish morning suit, as your man here smashes new-season denim steez with a layered, longline confection. A boxy worker jacket with a cord collar is a strong way to freshen up your go-to denim cover-up this autumn (extending it down to about knee-length is optional), while playing with subtly different shades of blue (throwing in a couple of non-denim, but very much on-palette, pieces up top, too) is a nice new take on the old contrasting colour/matching hue double-denim dichotomy.

Scandi simplicity doesn’t have to be restricted to an earthy palette and subtle, smart/casual style. This fella’s taken the basic crisp-and-clean tonal approach and applied it to that old rocker staple, the biker jacket – softening and smartening the tough-guy outerwear with grey wool trousers, a black jumper and a neatly tied bandana. Like Marlon Brando going for a job interview.
