He may be used to performing on stage at various global enormodomes, but Zayn Malik’s latest outfit looks more suited to dancing in front of a sound-system on the back of a flat-bed truck at a 90s anti-Criminal Justice Bill protest.

Visiting girlfriend Gigi Hadid in New York this week, the singer took retro rave-traveller style and gave it the standard Malik refresh. Black military boots were an obvious starting point – Zayn skipped the traditional Tippexed slogans but left them slightly unlaced for a punky edge.

With his ripped jeans updated for SS17 with bleach splatters and illustrations, the Bradford boy added a smart, technical, forest green jacket for dadcore trend points and a simple black T-shirt up top. All that was left was to add a high-vis orange beanie and Zayn was ready to fight for his right to party.
