LFWM SPRING SUMMER 2018 STREET STYLE

This weekend’s spring/summer 2018 shows marked the fifth anniversary of London Fashion Week’s menswear edition (or the less numerically satisfying 11th season). Unsurprisingly, the street-style set was out in force to celebrate – and provide some seriously strong outfit inspiration.

No wonder this dude’s happy, he’s just absolutely smashed two of summer ’17’s biggest trends in one steezily utilitarian getup. Lightweight, voluminous chinos are a skate-flavoured essential that’s finally starting to supplant the ubiquitous skinny pant. And the next-level take on tonal dressing is to make your colours so indistinguishable that they merge into a single shade of awesomeness.

Another one-tone wonder here. Your man’s matched up his tan jacket and chinos for a look so fearlessly functional we barely even noticed the subtle flashes of out-of-hours excess (those silver kicks).

What’s the opposite of a peacock? Some sort of quietly confident bird that doesn’t need to make a song and dance about its plumage? Whatever it is, Mr Icy-Fresh Tee and Nikes is channelling it here.

The London menswear shows took place on one of the hottest weekends of the year so far, which you might assume would have unravelled a few best-laid outfit plans. Wrong. Street stylers gotta street style, and when you’ve pieced together the perfect 'statement Acne Studios overcoat, sweatshirt and beanie' combo, you're sure as heck going to wear it. Heat stroke be damned.

This is more like it. Fella here’s got a Carhartt bucket hat to keep the sun off, a nice patchwork checked shirt as a summery substitute for the shacket, a basic monochrome tee and trews combo at his ‘fit's core, and some lightweight slip-on Vans. He’s basically ready to skip from Fashion Week frow to festival VIP tent with barely a change of lanyard.
