Last night’s Met Gala may have honoured Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo but, true to form, A$AP Rocky stuck by his boy Raf Simons in a steezy full-denim outfit from the designer’s Calvin Klein debut.

With the great and the good of the celebrity set gathering in New York for the Met Gala 2017, you’d be forgiven for forecasting a strong, but perhaps underwhelming, array of stylish tailoring. And while there were plenty of Oscar-worthy suits and interesting interpretations of the Comme des Garçons ‘The Art of the In-Between’ theme, A$AP Rocky (and Ashton Sanders) came clad in some more casual, Western-inspired cuts from Simons’ AW17 CK collection.

Rocky’s black denim shacket, jeans and white top play by the red carpet rules in terms of colour, but it’s pretty freeform from there. With no suit in sight, he works in some nice layering (a roll-neck under an open collar), good details (a tucked-in overshirt) and some en vogue 00s styling (unrolled, bunched-up jeans). In a crowd of over-the-top outfits, it’s a fresh, low-key take on occasionwear from our favourite Fashion Killa.
