COACHELLA FESTIVAL STYLE 2017
By Matt Glazebrook, 26 April 2017
Southern California’s Coachella festival is a lot like a normal festival, except instead of four days of rain, there’s near constant sunshine; instead of warm cans of lager bought out of the back of a Transit van in the car park, everyone’s drinking green juice; and instead of you and your mates, there's a load of stylish celebrities who've hopped over from LA for the afternoon. So not much like one at all, really. Still, lots of good clothes…
Versatile, layerable and in a stain-distracting pattern, the Breton-striped top is a strong component of any festival kit. Lil Uzi Vert knows this and always packs two: one to wear, one to wrap around his shoulders as an emergency back-up. Smart.
Migos may be towering over the rap game like a six-legged colossus right now, but that doesn’t stop them paying tribute to their hip-hop forebears. Offset’s Coachella tee shouts out to a time when the centre of the rap universe was in LA rather than Atlanta (whereas the leather trews and snake belt split the difference somewhere around West Texas).
On-stage steez doesn’t always offer much in the way of practical festi-dressing (who needs wellies when you’ve got a little golf cart to ferry you from tour bus to stage?) but here’s Denzel Curry looking both fresh as and perfectly rain-ready in a really nice block-coloured windbreaker. Get you a rapper who can do both.
Jared Leto lives and breathes festival dressing – indeed, some people (less kind than us) would say it’s the only place his current ‘explosion in a Gucci jumble sale’ vibe makes sense. Here he is, as per, keeping warm, sun-shaded, dust-free and highly visible in a pink beanie, sunnies, facemask, bleach denim jacket and bright red joggers combo.
