ADIDAS ORIGINALS MÜNCHEN
By Nic Hayman, 5 February 2017
Unless you’ve been living under a rock (no sneakerheads allowed), you’ll have noticed that adidas is innovating on all fronts right now, with new silhouettes and technology dropping on the weekly. But just in case you needed a reminder of the brand’s historical heat, the München provides exactly that.
This week’s Sneaker Sunday selection is a geographical oddity. The original shoe was part of the Trefoil’s legendary City Series, which (yup, you guessed it) honoured various European metropoles with their own colourways and designs. Releasing at the height of the football casuals movement, the wild hues and rarity of each release induced travelling fans into obsession. But despite being named after Germany’s capital, this edition of the München – which was revived by adidas authority Gary Aspden for his Spezial range in 2015 – is based on a Japan-made version from 1981. Proper cross-continental kicks these.
The latest colourway stays true to the simple formula established by the City Series – the synthetic suede upper is decked out in burgundy tones and accented with crisp white leather. Gold branding adds a touch of class, while a translucent gum sole is the natural choice to round things off. As always, you can win these by heading over to @asos_menswear for our weekly #SneakerSunday giveaway. Prost!
