OUTFIT OF THE YEAR #1
By Matt Glazebrook, 31 December 2016
Things have been a bit frayed for Kanye West towards the back end of 2016. But, in fairness to the rapper/designer/freeform Twitter experimentalist, he's been keeping so many disparate plates carefully spinning for so long, we can probably forgive him a little December waywardness.

All year, Ye's made the endlessly – some might say needlessly – complicated look easy. A fashion show in a basketball arena in front of 20,000 people, with half the rap game's most stylish drafted in as amateur models? Smashed it. An album with 20 tracks and four different titles, that was still being worked on during the week of its release? A tightly focused banger.
And then there's this getup, which takes the reverse route to more or less the same place. Super-simple elements – boxy, washed-grey hoodie, muted powder-blue longline T-shirt, black slim-fit work pants, blue and black Vans Old Skools – placed together with mathematical precision. What emerges is a lesson in layering and a true tonal triumph.
