Outfit of the month #9
By Sam Higgins, 30 April 2016
Zayn Malik stepped out onto the New York streets at the start of the month, with a grade-one haircut and a grade-one all-green getup worthy of an outfit of the month award.
The only issue with going incognito in khaki camouflage – especially if you’re a stylish dresser like Zayn Malik – is that unless you’re surrounded by greenery, your disguise actually makes you stand out more. But that’s lucky for us, as we can admire his sartorial talents and it’s lucky for you, as we enjoyed it so much we had to recreate it.
At the start of the year we showed how you can pull together a whole outfit of khaki hues and Zayn was the walking personification of that, while also adding his own spring touch. In its basic, stripped-back form, Zayn looks as if he’s popped out to the shop in his comfies, but his tonal skills made the outfit so much more than a simple lazy-day look. So, to kick off your copycat clobber, follow Zayn’s lead and double up on your khaki comfies with a zip-up hoodie and cargo-style joggers.
Next, layer a neat, white, long-sleeved tee underneath to add some substance should the weather stay chilly while out and about. Although the MA-1 bomber has become a wardrobe essential all year round, it is best utilised as a lightweight top layer during transitional months – just as Zayn did here – throwing it over his tonal tracksuit. Although his whole outfit already resembled freshly cut grass, you could add an extra spring edge with a fresh pair of white Stan Smiths to complete your rework of Zayn’s khaki kit.
