As we’ve already mapped the new hues that we believe will dominate your wardrobes in 2016, we thought we’d turn to the recent fashion week shows for further style inspiration. Our first trend – the pairing of hoodies and overcoats – is something we saw on the front rows, catwalks and cobbled London streets during LC:M. So, with that in mind, we pieced together an outfit that’ll knock your style rep up a few notches.
AW16: hoodies and overcoats
By Sam Higgins, 2 February 2016
On paper, pairing up a hoodie (a comfy, casual essential) with an overcoat (a smart piece of outerwear) won’t work. But if there’s anything we learnt from the AW16 shows, it's that the divide between smart and casual has become even more ambiguous – so much so that mixing and matching is now encouraged. While advising you to throw a hoodie underneath an overcoat seems pretty simple, mundane advice, nailing the look weighs heavily on what you accompany your newfound combo with. So, keep things nice and casual with some slim, mid-wash denim jeans with a raw trim. Show off that distressed detail by leaving out the socks and donning a fresh pair of white New Balance.
Up top, throw on a simple grey longline tee. The neutral tone won’t divert the eye away from the your on-trend sartorial happenings, but will add an extra element when layered underneath your hoodie. Next, put on a black oversized hoodie for a nice comfy/casj feel and then contrast that with a neat, navy polyester overcoat. The monochromatic injection to the outfit breaks up the navy tones and, for the perfect finish, grab an on-trend, khaki roll-top backpack.
