2015: most stylish music vids

From Kanye bossing the Brits with his army of black-clad backup dancers (jk, Stormzy) to Justin Bieber trolling rock purists with his throwback Nirvana swag, it's a been a strong, strong year for pop visuals. This aesthetic feast has extended to the world of the music promo, with some of 2015's best tunes coming armed with ace vids featuring even more ace outfits. Here are our favourite seven…

Elf Kid, Golden Boy

The debut clip from grime newbie Elf Kid featured several things that are right in our wheelhouse: low-key boasts about Lewisham, unlikely resurrection of the superlative 'stonker' and serious retro Ellesse vibes.

Tame Impala, The Less I Know The Better

This saucy, slinky video for Tame Impala's equally seductive sex jam The Less I Know The Better is all about crisp, stylised, 70s vibes. Fair enough – if a basketball-playing gorilla stole our Sissy Spacek-esque girlfriend, we'd take comfort in an retro-cool zig-zag-print vest, too.

A$AP Rocky, LSD

A$AP's comeback single featured some seriously trippy effects and an almost as brain-frazzling array of sweet garms – from brilliant bombers and perfect plaid overshirts to swagged-out talioring. Nightmarish psychedelic visions never looked so good.

Lazyboy Empire, Vampire

As we march into 2016 clad in our Yeezy-issue military-drab unitards, it's easy to forget 2015 was also a big year for normcore. All you need to know about the return of 90s dad basics is here in the promo for novelty sax-pop banger Vampire: staple sweatshirts, comfortable straight-leg denim in a mid-wash, practical footwear. All killer, no filler.

Drake, Hotline Bling

The clip that launched a million memes was also notable for some seriously covetable garms. Whether clad in hip-hop staples like Timbs, padded jackets and Jordan tees, or repping his own OVO hoodies and some seriously cosy knitwear, Drake dad-danced his way into our fashion hearts.

Skepta, Shutdown

Add brilliant collections of monochrome streetwear and the classic ‘you and all your mates hanging out on the estate’ rap video trope to the list of things Skepta Shutdown in 2015.

Kanye West, Only One feat. Paul McCartney

It says lot about Kanye's artistic evolution that, nine years after interrupting an award ceremony to protest his ‘best video’ defeat on the grounds that his clip 'cost a million dollars. Pamela Anderson was in it. I was jumping across canyons and sh*t!', he quietly made one of the actual best videos of the year with nothing more than a muddy country lane, a handheld video camera and some nailed-on outdoorsy threads in sizes M and XXXXS.
