Ways to wear: suit trousers
By Gavin Jewkes, 15 August 2015
A quality slim-fit suit is the most important weapon in your smartwear armoury. And once you’re equipped with the skills to break it down and wear the trousers and jacket as separates, it'll become arguably the strongest power player in your casual wardrobe, too. Here, we show you how to get extra mileage out of those surprisingly versatile suit trousers so that you can style out the remainder of summer like a boss.
Casual
The lightweight construction of suit trousers positions them ahead of jeans and chinos in terms of summer legwear. Chuck a pair on with hefty turn-ups – and a crease, if your ironing skills are up to it – along with a loose flannel shirt and white tee for a laidback look that errs on the edgier, Cali-inspired side of casual.
Summer smart
Pulling on a slim-fit suit is the easiest way of making people appreciate that you know exactly what you’re doing in the wardrobe department. However, worn with a tie and smart shoes, it can look a bit predictable. Take the formality levels down a notch and try wearing yours with plimsolls (no socks, obvs) and a crisp white T-shirt.
Night out
Granted, you wouldn’t wear this for a night down your local. But for an upscale night at a club even Kanye would have trouble getting into, chucking on your suit trousers with a boxy fit T-shirt and some stacked Dr Martens tassel loafers is a winning vibe.
