OUTFIT OF THE DAY
Outfit of the day #482
By Matt Glazebrook, 9 June 2015
Turns out, facial tattoos aren't the only thing that Wiz Khalifa has in common with Wade 'Cry-Baby' Walker.
Performing at the Hot 97 Summer Jam in New Jersey, the See You Again rapper rocked the same definitive 50s greaser uniform as Johnny Depp's character in John Waters' 1990 cult favourite Cry-Baby. In fairness, the combo of a black leather biker jacket, white T-shirt and battered blue jeans is hardly copyright J. Depp – it's been the go-to rough-edged cool guy getup for countless iconically stylish dudes over the years, from Marlon Brando to Pharrell Williams.
The key to sporting a timeless template like this is to keep the classics classic, and add in one or two subtle twists to personalise it. For Wiz, it's Vans Old Skool trainers, to lend the 'fit a punk twist, some gold chains and a white baseball cap that nods hip-hop-wards.
The final touch is a pair of smart round-lens glasses, which ensure Khalifa can see right to the back of his no doubt vast festival audience. Clever.
