Summer 2015: hairstyles
By Gavin Jewkes, 1 June 2015
Grab ya scissors, because it’s out with the man bun and in with a crop (if you pardon the pun) of new, shorter cuts to style out the summer in. We caught up with one of Britain’s handiest clipper-wielding barbers, Uppercut ambassador Luke Dolan, for the inside scoop on the top hairstyles to get this season. Check out his recommendations below.
The reimagined crop
Luke says: ‘This cut is a twist on the 90s crop. It has short sides with longer layers through the top and a blunt fringe. Just ask your barber for a zero fade on the sides, leaving the top a little longer, and to square off the fringe. It’s always good to show a photo, too! To finish, style with a featherweight paste.’
The high and tight pompadour
Luke says: ‘This is a good ol’ fashioned 50s short, back and sides with a new-school twist. Take the skin fade high and tight on the sides, but connect the back up. Make sure your barber keeps long layers through the top and hold the style in place with matte clay.’
The side-part pompadour
Luke says: ‘The side parting isn't going away just yet. The razored-in parting will give way to the natural parting though this summer. Ask a barber to find your natural parting before starting to cut your hair. Work together to get the right parting, then ask for a number one on the sides with a clean taper. Keep the shave through the sides towards the top and a decent length on top. Finally, style with monster hold wax to keep your hair looking good all day.’
