Style icon: Muhammad Ali
By Matt Glazebrook, 17 January 2015
Watching Muhammad Ali box at his peak – gliding around the ring with the speed and agility of a much smaller man – it's easy to forget he was 6'3'' and weighed 15 stone. A similar illusion was created by his style and poise outside of the ring – flatteringly clad in a snugly fitted suit, the heavyweight champ resembled a lean, mean, awesome-looking machine.

Check him out here in the mid-60s. His fashionable (then and now) narrow tie and lapels keep things simple and discreet, while the cut of the whole ensemble is on-point. A trip to the tailor is the way to go if you're a bigger guy wanting to suit-up stylishly – even if you can't afford full on made-to-measure, getting gear with a little give and having it cut down to size will reap serious rewards.
Ali's gone for a slim but not skinny fit, which shows off his stature without looking awkward or bulky. A cardigan and loose pocket square further soften the outfit on the right. Smashing stuff.
