Man's best (dressed) friend
By Will Morley, 3 November 2014
We’ve waved off the dog days of summer and are getting into that period of the year when it’s layers for days and wool for weeks. To celebrate the season, we’ve selected a few dapper doggie dudes who – despite having their own coats, y’know, growing out of their skin – get autumn apparel just right. It’s kind of a pet project.

Aloysius Van Winkle's hoodie (@digbyvanwinkle)
Yeah, we know Jay Z sang ‘all-black everything’ in Run This Town, but that was in 2009, son – what else are you still into? Happy-slapping and iPhone 3s? C’mon dude, can’t we have just a pop of colour? Nope, not when black looks as badass as it does on Aloysius Van Winkle here. Matte black shades (still needed for that autumn glare) and a matching black hoodie may well get you pulled in for a police line-up, but until that happens you’ll be simultaneously cool and comfy.
Daisy's bobble hat (@underbiteunite)
We’re not saying you have to go all twee like Daisy here, but a bobble hat always stands out far more than your basic beanie. Tone it down with a solid colour, go full 'Val d'Isère in the 70s' with a Fair Isle pattern, or just rep your team with some on-point branding. The underbite is optional, but pretty damn boss.

Tuna's scarf (@tunameltsmyheart)
Check out Snood Doggy Dog, all cosy and wrapped up. That’s actually Tuna, a Chiweenie (Chihuahua mixed with a Dachshund) who has the best smile/grimace in the world, a hefty following on Instagram (one million plus!) and is first in line for the dogs that look like Mr Burns title. Take a cue from him – grab a snood instead of a scarf and you’ll never have to worry about where your ends are dangling again.

Chango's shawl-neck sweater (@changothehandsomepittie)
Chango may be a Pit Bull, but it’s only his style that’s ferocious. Peep that chunky shawl neck jumper he’s rocking! Perfect for winter layering, a shawl neck adds a touch of preppy class and allows a glimpse of whatever’s underneath (say an Oxford shirt and tie for a smarter look, or a coloured Henley for casual cool) to pop through, adding a touch of visual interest. Oversized is this season’s way to go, but that means slouchy not sloppy.
