Give winter the boot
By Matt Glazebrook, 25 November 2014
We've raged against the dying of the light (and the dampening of the streets) for a few weeks now, but with much of the country waking up to undeniably grisly weather this week, its finally time to admit it – those plimsolls need putting away for another season.
Luckily, the worsening weather brings with it its own joys – specifically, the excuse to lace up a pair of tough, weatherproof boots in a rugged silhouette and stomp suavely through puddles without worrying about soggy socks. We've picked out some of our favourite winter-ready footwear to help you fight the elements in style – just remember to treat 'em with a leather protector first (to ensure maximum durability) and match with a cosy pair of thick socks to really feel the benefit.
The padded cuff and metal eyelets give these black boots (top) an outdoorsy vibe that's perfect for a wintry expedition, even if the longest 'hike' you'll attempt is the one from the front door to the welcoming arms of your local. The timeless brown work boot (above), meanwhile, will look ace with cuffed blue jeans, a thick flannel shirt and an optional bushy beard. Finally, the black biker-style option (bottom) is your rain-repellent kick of choice if you want something a little more dapper and night-out-worthy (style with skinny black jeans, as if you needed us to tell you).
