Some new shoes you want to slip straight on and get stomping around in. Others you want to preserve, box-fresh and immaculate, to be admired by all who see them.
Colour me Converse
By Matt Glazebrook, 11 November 2014
At first glance, the new Converse All Star Rubber Hi-Tops fall into the latter category. Produced in a range of three brilliant candy colours (as well as a deep shiny black), the full series of these kicks would look lovely all lined up on a shelf, like a line of vintage toy cars or some expensive kitchenware you can't quite bring yourself to cook with. But this would be a mistake. Made entirely out of waterproof and wipe-clean rubber (apart from the laces), this fresh take on the classic All Star template is ideal for adapting your Converse habit to the extremely un-canvas friendly months of winter.
As well as an offering to puddle jumpers everywhere, the range is a tribute to Converse's long and storied past, marrying the shape of its famous basketball boot to the brand's early heritage as a purveyor of rubber car tires and galoshes.
History lessons aside, these are a bold and unique new take on winter trainers, ideal for adding a ray of sunshine to the darker months.
