The Simpsons style
By Matt Glazebrook, 26 September 2014
It's a big couple of months for the residents of Springfield. The Simpsons kicks off its 26th season on the US's Fox channel this Sunday. On the same evening, Family Guy inaugurates its own 13th series with a special Simpsons crossover episode. If that's not enough, December will see the 25th birthday of the cartoon – quite a landmark.
Critics may bemoan a decline in overall quality since The Simpsons' mid-90s high point, but one thing that has undeniably remained consistent are the main characters' outfits – and we're suckers for a signature style. In tribute, we present a version of the Springfield look that's genuinely wearable and anything but cartoonish.
To 'become' Homer Simpson, you'll need a simple white polo shirt and a pair of slim-fit blue chinos as the backbone of the ensemble. Then we've picked out a smart pair of black leather Fred Perry kicks – for a sneaky touch of British street style in this all-American everyman of an outfit – and a nice brown belt (ideal for loosening after one too many doughnuts).
Next up, we've reimagined Bart Simpson's cheeky kid steez as something a little more grown-up but still fun, and very much in the spirit of not having a cow, man. A peachy orange crew-neck tee and some blue chino shorts are the essential ingredients, which we've styled up with a belt, a retro Americana Converse cap and, of course, some classic skate shoes: Vans in this case.
