Your Oktoberfest outfit
By Kara Wolf, 21 September 2014
Right about now – whether you're reading this on Sunday afternoon, late at night, or over your Monday-morning cornflakes – people in Germany are drinking beer. The reason, for most of them at least, is Oktoberfest: the annual celebration of all things boozy and Bavarian that kicked off on Saturday.
You can recognise the world-famous beer bash by its blue-and-white tablecloths and beer-drinking men in traditional lederhosen. On Theresienwiese – the Munich square that's Oktoberfest central – they rock the so-called Trachten–Style, where leather pants are complemented by knee socks, traditional shoes and green woollen 'loden' jackets. Hot.
If you want to join the party (in Germany or wherever you are) but aren't quite feeling the full-on Bavarian look, we've got you covered. Presenting: a guaranteed leather-pants-free outfit that's perfectly suitable to drink a lot of beer in.
We start it off with classic black skinny jeans, red Dr Martens and a matching bobble hat. The denim jacket with its borg collar brings the right amount of 90s vibe and draws attention to the main piece – our exclusive 'ASOS does Oktoberfest' T-shirt with PROST! print. Yup, you guessed correctly: that's German for cheers. The backpack is vital to stash your important bits – after the second Mass (one Mass is roughly two pints) the risk of going home without your hat, phone, wallet or T-shirt will have increased significantly. Well, then – prost!
