Best-dressed fans: part 3
By Matt Glazebrook, 13 July 2014
And so, our month of international football obsession has reached its conclusion. It’s been thrilling, fascinating, exhausting (thanks, mid-week, late-night penalty shoot-outs) and hilarious (thanks, Brazil semi-final defence). Most of all, it’s looked amazing. So before we pack away our wall chart, make plans to return to normal, civilised life and sit back for one last evening of yelling at Andy Townsend on the telly, here’s a final tribute to the real breakout stars of the tournament (sorry, James Rodriguez): the fans.

Despite a quarter-final exit, there’s an argument that the Colombian team have been the most fun to watch this summer. That’s probably true of their fans, too, whose cool retro-look shirts, sunset-flavoured face-paint and aviator sunglasses are an example to us all.

We’re not even sure which team this guy is watching, but he sure looks happy to be doing it. And we’re happy to see his sweet snapback, thick-rimmed glasses and checked shirt.

It’s fair to say there’s been a bit of attention-seeking among supporters in Brazil, as self-styled ‘characters’ attempt to outdo each other (and a grab a moment of big-screen celebrity) with demonstrative patriotism. Not this chap. A subtle swirl of face-paint is all he needs to show his Ivory Coast allegiance – he’s paired it with a kickass summer hat.

Who needs to actually watch the game? When you’re wearing a footy top this cool, you’ll end up with plenty of other things to distract you.

We couldn’t leave out this dude. Cool hat, amazing moustache and the saddest expression we hope you ever have to see: a true icon of this mad, brilliant summer of football and style.
