Festival Gear: MNEK
By Matt Glazebrook, 11 July 2014
MNEK – that’s em-en-ee-kay, in case you were too distracted by the topless, beret-wearing woman in his Every Little Word video to read the helpful pronunciation guide she was holding – is the latest intrepid festival-goer to reveal his packing list to us.
The annoyingly talented 19-year-old has been generating serious buzz for a few years now, thanks to his songwriting and vocal contributions for the likes of Gorgon City, Rudimental, Duke Dumont and, um, The Saturdays. But now the soulful crooner has a burgeoning solo career to take care of and, consequently, is trekking his way around the country’s outdoor music events this summer, with stops at both Latitude and Lovebox next weekend.
We caught up with MNEK and found out just what he’s bringing with him on his summer of festival fun.
I've got to have a portable charger for my iPhone. Then I need my friends with me.
Which festival(s) are you performing at this summer?
Parklife, Glastonbury, Lovebox, Latitude, House Festival, Bestival… I'm a busy bunny!
What's been your favourite ever festival moment?
Seeing Rudimental at V Festival last year. It was the first time I'd seen them in a while after they'd been touring, and we all had the best time.
Describe your fail-safe festival outfit…
My festival attire is gonna be very much classic MNEK, so prints all over and my little hat. My band are wearing all white, however… So, fingers crossed it remains that hue!
MNEK's next single Wrote a Song About You is out on September 1st. If you aren’t going to Lovebox or Latitude, you can catch him at Manchester Pride, Bingley Music Live, Bestival and more over the rest of the summer.
