Socks and sandals 2.0
By Gavin Jewkes, 1 July 2014
If the prevalence of bucket hats and bum bags at festivals across the nation is anything to go by, summer 2014 is fast becoming the season to re-evaluate everything you thought you knew about style, and embrace time-honoured fashion faux pas with gusto.
But it’s not just dubious headgear and fanny packs that have crawled their way out of sartorial obscurity and into our wardrobes. Arguably man’s worst crime against fashion, wearing socks with sandals, is on the rise too.
Don’t get us wrong – in your old man’s hands, pulling on a pair of sandals (or, specifically, a pair of sporty sliders) over some athletic socks probably isn’t the freshest of vibes. But done properly, and worn with basketball shorts and a hefty dollop of irony, this trend is the latest word in cool summer footwear. It's also one that doesn’t cost the earth to partake in.
So select your Nike sliders, gents, because it’s time to throw down the gauntlet and step outside your comfort zone.
