OUTFIT OF THE DAY
Outfit of the Day #107
By Matt Glazebrook, 27 May 2014
There are some performers for whom sharing a field with 40,000 muddy revellers in various stages of bank holiday 'relaxation' would be an excuse to dress down. Not so your 2014-model Arctic Monkeys. Playing two of their biggest ever gigs in London's Finsbury Park on Friday and Saturday, Alex Turner and co attired themselves for the occasion in suave eveningwear.
Guitarist Jamie Cook opted for a brilliant white suit on both nights of their brief residency (brave), while frontman Turner switched it up, sporting a striking smoking jacket over all-black threads on Friday and a more conventional, tie-less tux on Saturday. It's Al's Friday get-up we're celebrating here: skinny black trousers with a killer gold belt buckle, black shirt, slicked back hair (which has evolved from rockabilly quiff to more of a matinee idol's widow's peak), and of course that amazing oversized jacket.
Like the confident, swaggering set it accompanied, it's a look that says 'embracing the big time'.
