6 OUTERWEAR IDEAS FOR AUTUMN

By Eleanor Dunne, 12 April 2019

Yep, it’s almost time to start thinking about outerwear again. Unfortunately, though, these transitional temps require a special sort of coat or jacket – something lightweight enough to stop the autumn sweats but heavy enough to protect from a potential chill. Here are six styles that cover both those requirements – and tick the seriously stylish box, too, naturally.

We’ve been going on about animal print for a while now and we couldn’t leave it out as an outerwear suggestion. If you’re a minimalist dresser like the street-styler above, a snake-print mac is a great way to dial things up slightly while keeping the colour palette muted. Sssspecatular.

The versatility of the denim jacket knows no bounds. It'll guard you from that morning breeze but is lightweight enough to throw in your tote later in the day when the sun is out. And yes, the Canadian tuxedo is still a thing, as evident from this street-style shot. Pair with white accessories for a fresh finish.

You know what’s the worst? Those days when you’re loving your getup until the weather takes a turn, and your coat hides all your efforts. Enter the see-through mac. With one of these babies, you can show off your ‘fit and stay dry as a bone – even when you don't have an umbrella handler like Xenia Adonts here.

Sadly, it won't be long until you have to layer your blazer under a coat, so now’s the time to let it shine as outerwear. Throw it over jeans and boots to smarten up in a second, or pair it with matching mom shorts a la Aimee Song. Autumn workwear look, sorted.

Turns out an iridescent windbreaker is the transitional outerwear we need in our lives. Vibing off the hiking trend we’ve seen lately, it’s a sporty, weatherproof option that makes basically any outfit look cool. It will also come in handy if you've still got some festivals in your calendar.

Call us boring but the classic trench remains high on our outerwear faves list. It goes with everything, it’s always in style and it’s light enough that you don’t get too hot on those weird rainy-but-humid autumn days. Bring it into 2019 (or the 90s) with a bucket hat and chunky trainers.
