7 STYLE PREDICTIONS FOR 2019
By Eleanor Dunne, 29 January 2019
There are lots of reasons to be excited about 2019. From psychedelic fashion trends and inspiring exhibitions to laugh-out-loud Netflix shows, this year is gonna be one to remember, trust. So, here are seven stylish moments to look forward to over the next 12 months.

The trend – tie-dye
This groovy 60s trend is well and truly back for SS19. The catwalks were fit to burst with spinning psychedelic prints, as designers like Stella McCartney, Prada and R13 served all the nostalgic feels. But it's not all bohemian shapes and hippy vibes (although there will be plenty of maxi dresses and T-shirts for your vacay/festival wardrobe). Expect to see tie-dye in unexpected places, like on a tailored blazer or a slick boilersuit.

The key piece – head first
We'll all be dressing from the head down this year if the catwalks are anything to go by. Black fascinators at CELINE, straw hats at CHANEL, bucket styles at Etro, beekeeper versions at ERDEM, embellished headbands at Miu Miu... Head space was a big focus throughout the collections and will no doubt be top of the 2019 style agenda.

The exhibition – Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams
If you're planning a jaunt to Europe between now and July, be sure to make a pit stop in London because the V&A museum is hosting a major Dior exhibition. Chronicling the brand’s 72-year history, the show (opening 2 February) includes 200 couture creations – perfect for some old-school glamour inspo for your travels.

The movie – Rocketman
As Bohemian Rhapsody enjoys awards-season success, the world eagerly awaits the next biopic blockbuster: Rocketman. Based on the life of Elton John, the movie is being developed by the man himself and stars Kingsman actor Taron Egerton. As it's not out until May, we don't know much more about it yet – but from the trailer, it looks like it will be full of iconic tunes and epic costumes.

The show – Sex Education
Hailed as the new Inbetweeners, Netflix's new comedy Sex Education is out this month. Following in the footsteps of his sex therapist mother, Otis Milburn opens an underground sex therapy clinic at his school with his friend Maeve (who he’s in love with, naturally). The result is a hilarious, touching and seriously stylish affair that will have you wanting to wear Dr. Martens with fishnets and dye your hair pink, stat.

Industry trend – animal-friendly clothes
Fur is definitely a no for 2019. At the end of last year, Gucci announced it will no longer use it in its collections and opt for faux-fur instead – joining the likes of Versace, Tommy Hilfiger and Stella McCartney. In addition, more and more retailers are avoiding mohair, silk, cashmere and feathers in their designs, ASOS included. Cruelty-free fashion, what's not to love?

The artist – Kelsey Lu
Classically trained cellist and vocalist Kelsey Lu has worked with the likes of Sampha, Florence & The Machine and Solange, but 2019 is her time to shine with the release of her album, Blood. And it’s not only her music we’re looking forward to – the North Carolina native is also one to watch in the fashion stakes thanks to her fearless, experimental style.
