STYLING
HOW ASOSERS DO CHECKS
By Maybelle Morgan, 17 June 2018
Heritage, gingham, windowpane. Yes, checks have long been a wardrobe fail-safe, adding boxy, preppy detailing to your all-year-round looks. And now for 2018, the vibe is lighter and brighter, situated on crisper, more grown-up silhouettes. Check out how the ASOS staff are styling checked prints their way…

Long way down
A suit for casual Friday may sound like a corporate worst nightmare, but as Beth exhibits, it’s all about the style and how you pair it up. Her weapon of choice? A cornflower-blue suit, complete with an 80s-style longline blazer and cropped trousers. To break up the colour and add a more casual, wearable element, opt for a jersey logo tee and some chunky Nike sneaks.

For Scandi-meets-skate-chic vibes, Lakeisha’s your poster girl. At the heart of her ensemble is a cropped denim jacket, which gets a slightly smarter edge thanks to the subdued check print. The rest of the outfit follows suit, with a dove-grey slogan tee layered underneath, matched up with crisp white cargo trousers. Silver sneaks add a dose of futuristic fun to the look.

Suit yourself
Proof that a suit can be all kinds of fresh? Celia in this 60s-centric two-piece. A cropped jacket and tapered trouser in kitschy lime green get an additional preppy twist with a white ribbed roll-neck, but the cropped navel-baring detail adds a bit of daring fun. To finish off, Celia clashes up her influences with a loud pop of red on some 80s-style bow slingbacks.

And for a fresh 2018 twist on checks, Lottie’s out here doing the most with a two-piece combo that’s equal parts Clueless, Wimbledon and Heathers. The centrepiece of her look is undoubtedly the collarless blazer and tennis-style kilt in windowpane check, with their preppy sports-tip detailing. To keep the look balanced, Lottie keeps all eyes on the print with a classic white tee and some minimal white trainers.
