BEAUTY TREND: WHITE EYELINER
By Maybelle Morgan, 5 July 2018
White eyeliner. Yes, you might have dabbled in your beauty past, smudging it into the waterline to open up the eye. But don’t be mistaken. For 2018, it’s not for the faint-hearted. Think bright, ice-white Wite-out etchings repping 60s-meets-futuristic vibes. First seen on the catwalk and now making its way to your makeup bag, here’s how to nail the trend…

The models at Laura Biagiotti showcased a minimalist interpretation of the trend for 2018, with precise winged liner brightening up bare, buffed skin. Makeup was kept fresh – just a subtle sweep of bronzer to warm up the complexion and a few coats of mascara to contrast against the white. Easy as.

The rule of thumb for festival season? Go hard or go home. And ASOS Insider Sophia shows that experimentation favours the brave with this striking graphic look. Skin is kept clean and minimal for the perfect base for the liner to spring out against. Sophia then uses an almost pearlescent white liquid liner, first etching an exaggerated wing on each eye and then making a statement with a second line following the arch of the eyelids. So good.

And for your own take, it’s all about freestyling to whatever level of boldness feels comfortable. This NYX liner in pigment-heavy white dries to a matte finish, so start off with a simple cat-eye shape on the upper lash line for minimal commitment, maximum impact. Then, if you’re feeling brave, follow in the footsteps of Sophia and go for that artsy feel with extra lines.
