HOW TO WEAR BRODERIE ANGLAISE (LIKE AN ASOSER)

Certain prints and fabrics just evoke the feeling of warm sunshine (linen, gingham, florals, etc). The latest holiday romance that’s sweeping the ASOS office? Oh-so-pretty broderie anglaise (French for ‘English embroidery’, FYI), traditionally in a white eyelet pattern but also bringing the heat in vibrant red. See how the ASOS team are getting on board…

Double trouble

Go hard or go home, right? And when it’s a fabric this dainty and fresh, you can afford to double up for maximum impact. The key to making it work is switching up the prints in your separates to break up the fabric. Lotte’s added the Insta-wow factor by mashing up silhouettes: an off-the-shoulder, cropped top with a high-waisted shirred mini. Sporty sliders are the perfect contrast to finish the look.

Neck it out

Proof that broderie anglaise doesn’t have to look prim or twee, this Scandi-chic top keeps its cool with a high-neck cut, capped sleeves and structural peplum hem. Take notes from Jo and keep it simple with navy tailored trousers and fun, fluffy sliders.

Seeing red

The easiest way to introduce broderie anglaise into your outfit is to wear it via your warm-weather top. Exhibit A: this tomato-red, off-the-shoulder, textured triple threat of an eye pleaser. Let the top do all the talking by keeping the rest of your outfit plain: think black mom jeans and some minimal sandals.

Pink lady

For a real statement, go turbo on the girlie with this pink, ruffled midi dress. Avoid letting the dress takeover by clashing the pretty with edgy outfit add-ons for major little-punk-on-the-prairie vibes. Badass sock-boots? Check. 90s hoop earrings and chunky wrist wear? Check, check.
