After being turned away by fashion schools, Smith went ahead and started up his label back in 2010 regardless. Since then, he has built up an impressive following for his rule-breaking designs that celebrate the fearlessness and unapologetic self-expression of those who wear them.

On what his brand stands for...
Confidence and being completely unapologetic in who you are. It’s always about accentuating the body and this concept collection will reinforce that in an affordable and attainable way. There are so many different words I could throw out: self-love, self-respect, sex appeal, feminine, luxurious…

On how the collaboration came about…
It was super organic. I was showing the collection at Paris market, Lola [Okuyiga] [ASOS Talent Team Buyer] came about and while we were figuring out how we could work together, “concept collection” came up. I get knocked off every day, so I was super excited to work on this. I am a start-up [with limited] resources so for a company like ASOS to support a young designer like myself is a really good move.

On working with ASOS...
I’ve had the creative freedom to do anything I want. The categories are incredible – I’ve always dreamt of doing shoes, bags, belts, glasses and socks. So many men are like, ‘You gotta do something for us’ and this is the great platform.
