STYLISH CITY: COPENHAGEN

When it comes to laid-back dressing, the Danes have got it down to a tee. Structural pieces in block colours is the Scandi way, so emulate the aesthetic with pared-back, well-fitting threads. Start off with this towelling T-shirt from Swedish favourite Weekday along with a pair of cream-coloured shorts and a complementary jacket for a nice muted ensemble. Stick to subtle shades for your accessories, too: a pale-green cap, pink shades and black staple sandals will have you instantly looking like one of the locals.

Copenhagen’s unique neighbourhoods all have their own distinct style, but if you want to be somewhere that’s close to the centre and rife with places to eat and shop, then Vesterbro is the one. By staying here you’ll be close to the main high street, Gammel Kongevej, where you can hit up cool local clothing shops such as Wood Wood and Soulland, and you’ll also be within walking distance to the city’s nightlife region, the Meatpacking District, known to locals as Kødbyen. Head to Mother for pre-sesh pizza, then to Warpigs for a pint or two before spending the rest of your night partying at neighbouring Bakken or Jolene.

Now, you can’t say you’ve really visited Copenhagen without seeing the city’s famous harbour. Get off at Nørreport station and take a 10-minute walk through the central shopping area to reach Nyhavn ­– there are plenty of restaurants around to stop for a drink or a bite to eat and take in your surroundings.

Otherwise, a few stops on the metro from Nørreport will get you to Christianshavn where the famous hippie commune Freetown Christiania exists. Wander around and enjoy the local artwork on display, or chill by the water with a book if it’s warm out.

If you’re down to do something a little more energetic, then make sure you squeeze in a visit to Tivoli Gardens. An amusement park and music venue (Solange is due to play there this month), enjoy an aerial view of CPH if you’re brave enough to go on its famous giant drop ride, The Golden Tower.
