STYLISH GUYS IN FLORAL PRINTS

Floral prints are a summer perennial that have been enjoying an extended fashion moment of late. But this season, flowery patterns are blooming in some unexpected places – shorts, suits and even the waterproof macs seen at MSGM's show. And the essential Hawaiian shirt has had a revamp, from sun-bleached 50s surfer styles to something brasher, brighter and Balenciaga-inspired – think 90s-dad-at-a-barbecue normcore vibes. To inspire your own botanical arrangements, here’s how the stylish set are doing the summeriest style for 2018.

Slogan baseball cap? Check. Big old sunglasses? Check. Camera slung around the shoulder? Check. The absolute biggest and brightest floral print shirt? All the checks. This New York street styler’s absolutely smashing tourist steez, and he’s not afraid to shout about it. Less ‘I know this great little place in Bushwick’ and more ‘f*ck it, let’s just go for an open-top bus tour’.

Poppies aren’t the flower that first springs to mind when you’re thinking about florals for spring, but this dude’s doubled down on his unusual choice of bloom via a subdued-yet-summery co-ord in red and black. Bonus points for running with the colour scheme as far as his red-framed specs.

Proving that Hawaiian shirt season doesn’t have to coincide with shorts weather, this guy's layered up his oversized palm-print top with a cosy hoodie and baggy skater jeans for a grungy, tonal take that hits the exact sweet spot between winter blues and summer fun.

A tropical shirt with a black base is a good way to go if your mood is more last orders at the bar than poolside pina coladas. Skeletons among the palm trees amp up the surf punk steez, while the splashes of neon are a nice 90s nod that also feel right for right now.

Sure, the print may be faded and the hues subdued, but this guy’s floral shirt is part of a sneakily decorative double-up. Washed out grey, blues and pink blooms up top are complemented by a bolder version of the same pattern palette on skate kicks down below, while a simple pair of black skinny jeans split up the prints and keep things balanced. Clever stuff.

Peel your eyes away from this chap’s adorable doggie for a second and take a look at the way a subtle floral shirt in muted hues can stylishly dress down a suit. Converse kicks and a beanie continue the smart-skate mash-up, while the tonal thread that runs from printed petal to pooch is some next level street-styling.

Think we’ve reached peak floral here, guys. Granted, an all-over floral print shirt plus flowery hatband, rose-coloured chinos and a rhododendron-hued silk scarf might not be for everyday, but if it’s a sunny, special occasion, and you can pull it off with even a fraction of the savior faire of this fella, why the heck not?
