2017'S MOST STYLISH TV SHOWS

Master of None 

Working miracles for nice guys around the world once again, Aziz Ansari's Dev returned for a second season of this multi Emmy-nominated comedy-drama, and proved once more that polite, smart and culturally woke blokes no longer finish last – especially in the style stakes. There were few leading men, if any, who managed to nail modern everyman wardrobe staples and lustworthy tailoring quite like our pasta-loving pal, repping solid garms from quality brands like AMI, APC and Common Projects, and sharp suits inspired by 60s Italian cinema and old-school on-screen swanklord Marcello Mastoianni. You’re doing all the right things if you’re getting close to the balance inside Dev’s wardrobe, that’s for sure.

Peaky Blinders

Remember when, for small-screen menswear influence, our only option was to look across the seas to the likes of John Hamm and his band of Mad Men? Yeah, well, that’s no longer the case. Even with the pin-sharp blood-hungry Italian mafia on their tails, Tommy Shelby and family re-established themselves as the most stylish thing when they came back to us for a fourth season of Peaky Blinders earlier this year. Yet again, every inch of their ‘fits, from top to bottom, were applause-worthy – Tommy’s short back and sides and this time more textured sweep up top, those weighty knee-length trenches, their wide-legged woollen trousers and shin-kicking timeless leather boots. Take that, America!

Stranger Things

When we didn’t have our eyes slammed shut in terror, the return of Stranger Things, the most-hyped show of 2017, was a glorious excuse to indulge in some on-point retro goodness that was outrageously, almost spookily, relevant to today. Eleven’s gender-bending shacket and dungarees ensemble showed us exactly how to do unisex. There was almost as much corduroy in Hawkins as there is lining our high-street rails right now. That 80s autumnal colour palette rife with browns, oranges and burgundies. Even boiler suits, one of the most controversial trends of the year, made a bold appearance. And we challenge you to show us a more badass prom makeover than Dustin’s in that final episode. What a guy!

The Deuce

James Franco was one of many big Hollywood fish to bite Tellyland’s baited hook in 2017. Twice, in fact: The Deuce doubles up on Franco swagger, with him assuming the role of two NYC bartenders with big dreams, the Martino twins. The only thing bigger than their ambition? Their huge collars, statement facial hair, wide trousers and bold luxe polos. And with his fellow male cast members big pimpin’ in rule-breaking clashing prints, dangerously slick pinstripe tailoring and classic American double denim, it’s a snapshot of everything that made the boho-prep look of 70s New York City such a historic and trail-blazing phase for menswear.

Twin Peaks

Brilliant, weird, wonderful, genius, funny, creepy, bonkers… we’re not running out of adjectives to attach to David Lynch’s cult crime thriller, which made a massive comeback in May after some 26 years. Of all the descriptors though, ‘stylish’ has to be one of the big ones. The show’s carefully curated wardrobe, dripping in 90s goodness, made it oh-so relevant in the fashion stakes, with floppy ‘dos, hoiked-up trousers, grungy bad boys, pastel palettes and statement glasses as sought-after now as they were back then. Special mention has gotta go to the late great Harry Dean Stanton though, for his double-hit of awesomeness in a chunky shearling-collared cord jacket.
