NEW AW17 TREND: SOUL TRAIN
By Sam Higgins, 6 July 2017
In our final AW17 trend, Soul Train, we’re channelling streetwear’s current love for eccentric styling and retro details by bringing a mix of 70s skate and hip-hop influences to your everyday threads. Here’s the lowdown.
That means we should expect bowling shirts, three-striped tracksuits and statement hats to play a bigger role in our winter wardrobe.
Be brave and don a full tracksuit or oversized borg jacket to stylishly beat the chill and your turn-of-the-80s-inspired look will make you stand out from the crowd.
Outerwear gets bigger, but layering pieces – like striped or raglan tees – become more fitted, giving an interesting mix of proportions.
Late-70s inspiration flooded the catwalks in the AW17 shows, but it was most prominent in Marc Jacobs’ tribute to the half-decade, which saw a soundtrack and social-media-free show take us back to the days of Grandmaster Flash in the South Bronx.
Elsewhere in Milan, Marni flirted with luxe tracksuits in bold hues, while back in New York, Coach paired retro stripes with patchwork outerwear and dusty tones, bringing an interesting yet wearable twist.
