Why are women not coding? Not only does it pay $$$, but tech companies like Google and FB have some srsly good perks (think: free snacks, flexi hours, onsite gyms etc). This is the question director and photographer Robin Hauser Reynolds grapples with in her new flick CODE: Debugging The Gender Gap, which debuted earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
Robin came up with the idea of her new straight-shooting doc after seeing firsthand how her daughter felt entering a computer science class at uni. ‘She felt like she didn’t belong in that classroom, in that field and in that major.’ The industry, as portrayed by the film, may be at the forefront of tech, but its chauvinistic culture and perspective on gender is wayy out of date.
