Award-winning American designer Oscar de la Renta has died at the age of 82 after an eight-year battle with cancer. The world-famous couturier was best known for dressing Hollywood and political royalty, with the likes of Jackie O, Sarah Jessica Parker, Emma Watson, Taylor Swift and many, many more as fans. Most recently, the fashion heavyweight – who studied under Cristóbal Balenciaga and held positions at Lanvin, Balmain and Elizabeth Arden before establishing his own label BITD – generated international headlines after his house dressed Amal Clooney in an intricately laced off-the-shoulder gown for her wedding. Not even a week ago, de la Renta appointed Peter Copping (formerly creative director at Nina Ricci) to helm his eponymous label, which is famous for its incredibly tasteful red-carpet frocks and dazzling eveningwear. As fashion ed Vanessa Friedman wrote on Twitter, 'We owe him our elegance.' ♡
