You will have seen on all your social channels last night that cult comedienne Joan Rivers has passed away, aged 81. Joan, who was most recently host of the E! show, Fashion Police, which she starred in alongside Kelly Osbourne, died in a New York hospital on Thursday surrounded by family and friends after suffering from cardiac arrest. Celebrities paid tribute to the doyenne of the red-carpet commentary in their droves yesterday, most notably NYC’s fashion pack. Lena Dunham was one of the first to tweet, saying: "Watching Joan Rivers do standup at age 81 was incredible: athletic, jaw-dropping, terrifying, essential. It never stopped. Neither will she."

Not only did Joan always look a million dollars (girl gave good accessory), she also taught us some invaluable life lessons. In the words of Joan herself, "Never be afraid to laugh at yourself, after all, you could be missing out on the joke of the century."
