We grabbed two of our favourite up-and-coming London fashion designers, Claire Barrow and Sadie Williams, for a little chat about how their careers are going, nicknames and their fave emojis.
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN YOUR CAREER RIGHT NOW?
Claire: 'I've graduated from Fashion East and I'm now part of NEWGEN, the fashion scheme funded by the British Fashion Council and Topshop. [NEWGEN supports six designers every year – past alumni include Christopher Kane and Meadham Kirchhoff]. I’ve got into digital printing this season. My collection is about dead male icons like Serge Gainsbourg and Lou Reed.'
Sadie: 'I did a super fun project for London Fashion Week, creating a mini collection of dresses for Barbie and a "dancing Barbie disco" animation made with my brother Joe. I have a small capsule collection in collaboration with a high street label coming out – can’t say who yet though, I’m afraid). Plus, I'm very proud to be exhibiting dresses from my Central Saint Martins MA graduate collection in the Design Museum's "Designs of the Year" exhibition in March, too!'

HOW DOES WHERE YOU'RE FROM INFLUENCE YOU?
Claire: 'I'm from Stockton in north-east England and I like to push myself. I went to Cleveland College of Art & Design. It was great and I learnt a lot there. I was like, "Yeah, I'd quite like to do fashion", but I didn't really know why. I had a great tutor who said, "You're not serious about it, you need to change." And I did.'
Sadie: 'I’m from Ladbroke Grove, London. Growing up experiencing the eclecticism and vibrancy of the local Portobello and Shepherds Bush markets massively influenced me. I’ve been going to the fabric shops on Goldhawk Road in Shepherds Bush with my mum since I was a kid, so I’m sure that influenced my passion for textiles, print and colour.'
WHAT'S YOUR NICKNAME?
Claire: 'Blaire Carrow.'
Sadie: 'Sadie! My real name is actually Mercedes, but I didn’t even know that until I was six and shown it in my passport!'

WHAT ANIMAL WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE?
Claire: 'I really like llamas actually, I love the way they look!'
Sadie: 'A migrating bird that gets to check everything out from way up in the sky.'
WHAT'S YOUR FAVE EMOJI?
Claire: 'Salsa girl, smiley poo.'
Sadie: 'Kiss lips, ace sign, flamenco dancer.'
WHAT DOES YOUR STAR SIGN SAY ABOUT YOU?
Claire: 'Pisces. It's hyper emotional, isn't it?'
Sadie: 'Pisces. Creative, reticent, daydreamer, a bit emo!'
