While you were researching how to out-dress your boss at the Christmas party, we've been conducting our own investigation into the BBC Sound of 2014 longlist. These are the 15 artists that a panel of music industry heavyweights expect to blow up next year, and if the success of last year's winners, Haim, is anything to go by, making the list is a pretty special feat. The 2014 winner is due to be announced in January and we think these guys have a pretty good shot:

With her killer wardrobe, mysterious persona and infectious vocals, Banks is definitely in the running to be a bona fide superstar. Girl crush, say whaaaat?

Chlöe Howl
Not afraid to embrace all the angst and boredom that comes with being a teenager, Chlöe is making some of the most honest and fun pop tunes around.

MNEK penned tracks for The Saturdays and Little Mix before going it alone as a singer/producer. And we're glad he did because the super-talented 19 year old also boasts an amazing voice. And a really amazing haircut.

Say Lou Lou
Hailing from Sweden, Say Lou Lou are super stylish twins whose voices marry together to create some of the dreamiest electropop around.

Kelela ditched her previous musical outfits (an indie band and a jazz group) to get really good at clever production. She's now single-handedly pioneering a new kind of R&B from the future – we're excited to see what she comes out with in 2014.
