HOW TO WEAR CORDUROY RIGHT NOW

By Maybelle Morgan, 9 November 2017

If the mention of corduroy brings to mind memories of your secondary school geography teacher (good blazer, Mr Robbins), then prepare to have all your misconceptions wiped away this autumn/winter. With fervent nods from the AW17 catwalks (Marc Jacobs, Mulberry, Lemaire and more) and your street-style faves (ASOS Insider Anna approves), cord has had a cosy-cool overhaul and will be taking over wardrobe in T-minus 3, 2, 1…

French brand Lemaire fangirled hard for corduroy this season, sending out models dressed in boxy 80s suiting (ribbed head-to-toe for your viewing pleasure). Moody grape two-pieces were layered up with frothy red roll-necks and finished off with retro suede courts. Very working girl indeed.

If you’re all over the all-cord-everything vibe, but want to go a bit lighter than a suit, follow in the footsteps of ASOS Insider Anna and enlist the help of a retro-look jumpsuit. The midnight-purple hue, wide-leg hem, 90s square neckline and diddy tie-straps all get the thumbs up. Anna makes it the perfect weekend 'fit by layering hers up with a slogan tee and finishing with fresh white sneaks and a pink cord backpack.

So you’re making your foray into corduroy but want to avoid going too dadcore. The key? Switch up the colour. These ASOS cord dungarees in the babiest of baby pinks are perfect for adding some subtle texture to your outfit with a real 90s kick. Finish by adding a white tee and some stompy hiking boots.
