There are numerous ways to beat the summer heat in style – such as, say, carrying a hand-held mini-fan or wearing a trendy golfing visor. But for anyone who wants to experience a level of stylishness and comfort above even that, why not consider the oft-overlooked linen suit?

In years past, the praises of linen formalwear were sung in literary classics like Mark Twain’s The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby – both of which celebrated it as the summer uniform for sartorially-inclined members of the leisure classes.

Nowadays, however, flax-based tailoring comes in a range of modern cuts and relaxed fits, which means linen suits are about half as stuffy-looking and twice as easy to wear as they were back in the day. They’re still smart enough to wear with a fresh white shirt and a pair of Derbies for a wedding, but you can also dress one down with a printed shirt and boat shoes for a cool summer party.

Don’t just take our word for it, though: take a look at the video below for a masterclass in looking smart in linen for summer.
