But before you go rogue and wear a suit so bright that you get asked to step aside when it's time for photos, take a look at our tips and video below for how to wear colour to a wedding.
Keep it simple
If you're going for a suit in, say, an intense shade of cobalt, pare everything else back. A crisp white shirt and the addition of a humble pocket square is all it takes to round things off.
Mix it up
Futureproof your wardrobe by choosing a suit that's versatile, so that the trousers or jacket can be worn as part of separate outfits. Even better, if you already own a navy suit, update it by going for a jacket in a different, lighter shade of blue, and add a pair of sunglasses and tassel loafers to give your outfit a cool, contemporary edge.
Know your shape
When it comes to wearing a coloured suit, the cut is extra important. Broadly speaking, lighter suits are not particularly flattering on large torsos – so if you're a bigger guy and you want to wear a cream suit, for example, it's important to get one that doesn't have too much excess fabric that causes unsightly bunching.
