FEBRUARY 2017'S MOST STYLISH VIDS

By Matt Glazebrook, 3 March 2017

February is award show season, but for some reason both the BAFTAs and Oscarsfailed (again) to recognise the Best Use of Clothes in a Pop Music Video category. Consider the omission corrected.

A Boogie & Don Q – Bag On Me

As his name suggests, A Boogie With Da Hoodie loves a hooded top. So much so, he wears three in one go in his new, Grand Theft Auto-themed video – a classic grey sports hoodie, a plaid, shearling-lined hoodie over that, and a hooded Stone Island coat over the top of that. Not content with this level of extreme hoodie action, he pops up later in a neon green hooded sweatshirt layered under a (remarkably hood-free) Off-White bomber jacket. Mission (to make us add several new hoodies to our saved items) passed.

Big Baby D.R.A.M. – Cute

'I think you're cute,' croons D.R.A.M. 'I think you're cu-uu-uu-te'. But who is he singing to? His adorable puppet mini-me? The parade of Brooklyn beauties they encounter on their stroll around town? Or the excellent (grand) dadcore garms he and his sidekick wear? We'd sing an ode or two to the rainbow-patterned roll-neck D.R.A.M. rocks in the final scene, for sure.

Rae Sremmurd – Swang

As fun as the golf chic is in the video for Rae Sremmurd's latest off-kilter banger, it's around the 2:10 mark that things get really sartorially interesting. As the sun sets, and the mist rolls in, Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi ditch their polo shirts for some strong 19th-hole steez – specifically, a brilliant red, white and blue striped panther-print Gucci jumper and a similarly-hued gilet.

The Weeknd – Reminder

Reminder: The Weeknd has a bunch of nice clothes (including a cool camo-printed coach jacket), a great merch line and a load of famous and stylish friends – including A$AP RockyDrakeYG and Travis Scott – willing to stand around not doing much in the background of his videos.

Stormzy – Big For Your Boots

You get a lot of fashion information about Stormzy in his comeback single: he doesn't own any Tom Ford; he doesn't have a Moncler coat in his wardrobe either; he wears size 12 shoes, but will do the road in his socks if necessary. The video, meanwhile, is all about the Wicked Skengman's love for a one-tone outfit – all-black hoodie and gilet steez, all-white tee and joggers, and, best of all, the all-tan tracksuit he wears while intimidating some hooligan-types via the power of dad dancing.

Young Thug – Safe

Not much happens in Young Thug's latest audio-visual jam, but what does happen (Thugger mooching about in a corridor with a big stack of – for some reason – £20 notes) happens in some really good clothes. Specifically, a lovely varsity-style jumper with a big 'M' on it, and a highly coppable customised denim jacket with our hero's name emblazoned on the back.
