STYLE LESSONS FROM GAME OF THRONES

By Sarah Kershaw, 16 July 2017

Prepare to say goodbye to your Monday evenings – Game Of Thrones is back for its seventh season. As winter finally arrives and the fight for the Seven Kingdoms no doubt gets more brutal, it's not just the Night King and Daenerys' dragons that we'll be keeping an eye on – there are some surprising style lessons to be taken from the windswept wardrobes of Westeros. Not convinced? We present the evidence below.

Go big on outerwear

It may be one of the hottest summers on record, but, as Ned Stark would say, winter is definitely coming. When it does, take a tip from Jon Snow's perennial cape-wearing and invest in your own fluffy cover-up.

This guy has taken the Night's Watch look and dragged it into modern-day Milan, adding a low-key Gucci hoodie and offbeat yellow trousers for extra style points. Going faux fur may be a scary thought, but here's how to pull it off with panache.

Holes don't have to be patched

Moths been at your favourite jumper since you last wore it? Don't panic. As we saw at Kanye's post-apocalyptic Yeezy Season 3 presentation last year, destroyed knitwear is in. And where do we think Ye got his inspiration? From none other than Arya Stark, of course.

Here's the man himself, shamelessly replicating Arya's GOT series six costume, with a ripped jumper that looks like it's been chewed on by a direwolf. Like Kanye, keep it simple elsewhere with jeans and just a bit of jewellery to upgrade the overall look.

Leather doesn't have to be black

Jaime Lannister may look depressed here, but he really shouldn't. Not only is he one of the most dapper dressers in King's Landing, he's also a really good advert for the power of non-black leather.

When autumn comes, take a tip from him – and this guy – and switch up your standard jacket for a burnished red/brown alternative. It'll refresh your colour palette and leave more room for experimentation – plus coloured leather looks boss when it's worn in.
