PRODUCT FOCUS

SHIRT + JACKET = SHACKET

By Luke Raymond, 21 March 2017

Is it a shirt? Is it a jacket? Ohhhh, it’s both. A portmanteau (that English Lit degree comes in handy once in a while) of shirt and jacket, the shacket strikes somewhere between the two on the sartorial scale.

Think of it as a translation of the humble shirt silhouette for those tricky transitional seasons. We’re talking thick, woven fabrics and rugged colourways – or a dialled-down take on the bomber jacket, in lighter-weight cotton, finished with shirt cuffs. However you classify it, the shacket is your new spring go-to.

How to wear 'em?

1. Slip a plain overshirt style, like this navy Cheap Monday cut, over a textural knit and team with some worn-in denims. Leave undone for a jacket effect or button up and top off with a lightweight parka when the April showers hit.

2. Add a streetwear edge and layer a camo version from Levi's over a printed white tee. Undone buttons keep it shacket.

3. Pair a light-grey zip-up shacket from Jack & Jones with a long-sleeved T-shirt in a neutral hue like pink or stone. The double-sleeve quota will keep you cosy, while the tonal palette shows off some minimalist Scandi style skills.
